Christmas tends to sneak up on me anyways, but in the warmer, sunnier climate of San Diego, combined with me being heads down buried in schoolwork for the last few weeks, it’s been startling to see Christmas lights up at houses. Still, it was pretty cold and rainy today, so it was as close to December in Ohio as it’s been. The morning and early afternoon were a delightful few hours spent with friends who were in town. It was fun to see them all, and just hanging out in a coffee shop and over sushi was a wonderful break from schoolwork.
Later in the afternoon, we tried to get in the Christmas spirit. By “we” I mean Christy, Bryan and Amber who came together at our apartment and made Christmas cookies. And by “Christmas cookies” I mean like 200 of the things. I can’t believe how many sugar cookies and buckeyes (much less the mint-chocolate-chip-brownie-cookie-things) were produced in a span of 5 hours. Of course, I spent the time working on my website assignment for one of my classes, but I enjoyed the Christmas Music (I have a several hour mix left over from previous years when I used to throw a holiday cocktail party. That was back when I had 1) a house 2) time and 3) disposable income) and munching on a few tasty cookies. It still doesn’t feel quite like the holidays, but it was fun to have a house full of friends, music and good food while the rain came down on a grey day outside. Merry Christmas everyone!
(and for those counting, we’re up to 5 rainy days now. I fear it’s about to increase dramatically)
We decorated our tree today! Or I decorated it after Art Boy reminded me what cabinet the ornaments were in. We both pretty much said “oh shit, it’s Christmas week” today.
Those cookies look *good.*
Here is a fun gin-related story for you!
The cookies are uber-tasty. I have had too many today, and intend on having more before bed. The Bond story was fun, although the guy is a total ass. Have you ever actually had a vesper? I made one a few years ago, when I had a bottle of white Lillet hanging around. I don’t recall liking the vesper, but that was many moons ago. Lillet is one of those ingredients I always think I should pick up again, as it’s in a surprising number of drinks. Most call for the white, but it’s a wine so sort of a pain in the butt to deal with once it is opened.
Congratulations on the holiday decorating! Have you put cute holiday outfits on the cats, yet? We’re all breathlessly awaiting the pictures!!
Sebastian is so cute. He makes his own holiday decorations for the house! Who needs outfits? (Now go have a buckeye.) Anyway, I’ve never had a Vesper but did have a similar cocktail at a restaurant once. I forget what they called it, but it was a vodka-gin mix and much more pleasant than it sounded.
Mmm…. cocktail.
FIIIIIIINE. If you won’t post any pictures of cats dressed up, then I will.
It’s possible I’m just looking for any excuse not to study more corporate finance…
I’m hoping for a chance to stop by the Omni when I’m in Cincinnati next, and if so I will totally see if they can make me a Vesper. I’ve never been terribly impressed with their bartenders, but it’s just such a cool place.
The Omni is becoming a theme … maybe not.
Here‘s another link for you! Slightly off topic, but whatever.
The lack of an Over the Rhine concert or two is actually one of the things that’s really causing it not to seem like the holidays. Normally I’d have caught them at Little Brothers (at least once) and debated going down to see them at the Taft. Alas, they’re not scheduled to play in San Diego anytime soon.
