The divers go into the water with the sea lions, and encourage the tourists to come on to the beach. This chases off all of the sea lions. It's difficult to fathom why they want to "return" this beach to the humans instead of having one beach amongst many with sea lions on it. La Jolla is much less worth visiting without these fun critters.
